Goofy Pajama Costume
Clumsy and dimwitted––a half-wit hick. That’s Goofy, who made his debut in the 1930s animated short The Whoopee Party. Sounds risqué! After being featured with Mickey and Donald in trio capers, Goofy got his own gig in the late 1930s. Two of his star turns in animated shorts were nominated for Academy Awards. Go, Goofy, you superstar, you! Fun fact––his original name was Dippy Dawg––another name revealing his lack of intellectual prowess. Sources tell us he also was called George Geef, G.G. Geef, Goofy Goof, G.G. Goof, and Goofus D. Dawg. Again, none of these appellations connote an IQ in the triple digits, but you probably weren’t going to be confused with Stephen Hawking in this Goofy Pajama Costume. In the 1990s Goofy had his own TV show, Goof Troop, and later two feature films, A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie. Makes him seem a little less dim-witted, doesn’t it? His name isn’t just above the title––it’s in the title. And he merited a sequel. Keep that in mind when you sport the officially licensed Goofy Pajama Costume. Might make you hold your head up a little higher, movie star and all.
Did you know Goofy’s a widower, raising his son Max Goof as a single dad? You’ll get extra points for sympathy when you share that tidbit. “Garsh, I’m just a single dad raising this little feller on my own.”
Fact––this Fun.com writer had a much-loved Goofy stuffed animal as a youngster. This Goofy was left in a tangle of sheets in a motel bed in southern Indiana and never seen again, despite frantic parental calls to housekeeping to retrieve him. Sniff, sniff. Maybe if your Goofy paraphernalia is wearable rather than merely an accessory, you’ll never leave it behind.
